Add something to My Music
If you are unsure where something belongs, start with Choose what to add to My Music to compare the three groups.
Open My Music, then select the + button on mobile or Add music item on desktop. From Home, choose Add music or note → Add music item on desktop, or Add → Add music item on mobile.
Choose the group that matches what you want to organize:
- Choose General and enter a title for your exercise, routine, collection, project, or other musical material.
- Choose Repertoire piece, then search for and select a music Library record. If the music is missing, add it to the Library first.
- Choose Technique, then select a built-in technique or enter a name and choose Create technique item.
Add the instrument and any optional details you want, then select Add item. Core information such as status, labels, description, and favorite status stays in Item details. Practice settings separately groups the default practice type, difficulty, and target tempo for logging sessions and following your progress. The form starts with your favorite instrument when one is configured and uses Moderate as the default difficulty.
If the title or connection is already used by an active item for the same instrument, the form stays open and shows that the item already exists in My Music. If the matching item is archived, Cadenso asks whether you want to restore it. For repertoire, the confirmation identifies the matching Library piece or movement and instrument first, then shows its personal title. Confirming makes the existing item active again with its history intact instead of creating a duplicate.
Edit an item
Open an item in My Music and use its actions menu to select Edit.
Depending on the item type, you can change:
- title, including an optional personal title for connected repertoire and built-in technique items;
- instrument and status;
- default practice type, difficulty, and target tempo under Practice settings;
- labels and favorite status;
- music library connection for repertoire items;
- description, Spotify link, and YouTube link.
The description formatting toolbar supports bold or italic text, lists, and checklists. Enter target tempo as a whole number in BPM.
Changing an item’s instrument also changes the instrument on every practice log attached to it so the item and its complete history remain associated with one instrument. Before saving, Cadenso shows a warning with the number of logs that will be updated. Changing the default practice type affects future sessions, while the practice types saved on existing logs remain unchanged.
Changing a music library connection keeps the same repertoire item and preserves its practice logs, notes, focus areas, labels, and statistics. A built-in technique item keeps its original Scales, Arpeggios, or Chords category, but you can change its personal title and other settings.
Editing does not change the item group. Use Convert item when an eligible item should become General, Repertoire, Technique, or a focus area.
Choose an item status
Status describes your current relationship to an item:
- Planned means you want to work on it later.
- Active means you are currently working on it or maintaining it.
- Paused means you have temporarily set it aside and intend to return to it.
- Finished means the work you intended to do is complete.
- Abandoned means the work is unfinished and you do not intend to return to it.
Finished does not mean mastered or permanently learned. You can change a Finished item back to Active whenever you return to it. Use Abandoned instead when you have decided not to continue unfinished work. Status is also separate from archiving: an archived item is removed from the regular My Music view while its status and history are preserved.
Find and organize your music
Use search and filters to narrow My Music by group, instrument, status, difficulty, artist, era, genre, label, or favorite status when those options apply. The groups are All, Repertoire, General, and Technique.
On desktop, instrument, status, and favorites are available as quick filters. Select More filters for the remaining options.
My Music is sorted by Last activity by default, so items you are actively using stay near the top. Activity includes editing the item or one of its focus areas, logging practice, and creating, editing, or deleting an associated note. You can also sort by Last practiced or Date added.
